I bet youâve heard people talk about using their body language to become a better presenter or speaker. You may have also heard them talk about using your body language and facial expressions to become a better leader. But have you heard people talk about using your tone of voice to be a better speaker, leader, and advocate?
Probably not. And thatâs a problem. In many ways, your tone of voice is more important than your body language or facial expressions. In this episode, youâll learn why thatâs true and how to use your tone of voice to build belief and win.

In this episode of the podcast, Heather welcomes Urs Koenig, a former United Nations peacekeeper and NATO military peacekeeping commander, who is also the author of "Radical Humility: Be a Badass Leader and a Good Human." Urs discusses the importance of humility in leadership, proposing a shift from traditional heroic leadership to what he calls "now leadership," which is centered on radical humility. This leadership approach is anchored in three pillars: accurate self-knowledge, self-awareness, and relational leadership. He emphasizes that feedback is crucial for growth and development as a leader and that vulnerability is key to building trust.
Heather and Urs also explore how his endurance athletic background has shaped his views on leadership and the skill of learning to lose. They talk about effective communication and the various ways of conveying messages to reach different audiences. Urs shares insights into his upcoming book "Leadership Now," which aims to be personal, research-based and includes practical exercises for readers to apply its concepts.

Advocating is overcoming doubts and building beliefs. Ultimately, itâs the ability to ask for what you want and get it, over and over again. After 25 years of studying the art of advocacy, Heather Hansen has identified three simple steps to ask for what you want and get it.
1-Know what you want.
2-Ask for it, out loud and with delight.
3-Master the art of the ask.
In this episode, youâll learn the specifics of all three steps. And youâll walk away with the ability to ask for what you wantâand get it.
If you want help with these 3 steps, you can get free access to the exercises that will help you to see other perspectives. The ability to do so will help you with all 3 steps. You can access those exercises here.
And if you want to own the magic of these three steps, you could join The Self Advocacy School. The opportunity to be a Founding Member will be over at the end of February, so this is your chance to get what you want, over and over again. Find out more here.
And now, in this episode youâll learn more about:
Advocacy and knowing what you want. (0:02) the definitions of advocacy Advocating is about asking for what you want and getting it, whether in personal or professional settings. How being unsure of what you want leads to paralysis and a lack of clarity in career or personal goals. Heatherâs personal growth and career development. (4:30) Heatherâs experience of transitioning from trial attorney to coach, highlighting the importance of practicing and being willing to make mistakes in discovering one's true desires. Finding and asking for what you want in life. (7:49) The difference between âleapingâ and âcreepingâ to what you want. How Heather crept into her new career by experimenting with different roles while still maintaining her full-time job as an attorney. The importance of asking for what you want directly and with delight, rather than relying on manifesting or giving what you want to receive. Recognize the common mistake of trying to prove oneself by doing extra work, rather than simply asking for what you want. The importance of asking with delight. (12:27) Ask with delight to increase the likelihood of getting what you want. Advocacy skills for personal and professional growth. (15:58) Understand the importance of mastering the art of the ask, which involves understanding and addressing the needs and perspectives of one's jury. Reception skills are key to advocacy, as they involve listening and figuring out what the âjuryâ wants and needs, and then speaking to that perspective in a way that changes their beliefs.Join The Self Advocacy School before February 14th to become a founding member: https://advocatetowin.com/self-advocacy-school/

There are many tools you can use to advocate for anything you want, and today weâre focusing on one of the most important tools-Evidence.
Whether youâre a leader advocating for change, a salesperson advocating for your product/service, an individual advocating for more resources or a partner advocating for more support, you can use evidence to build beliefs and win.
You build belief through the evidence you collect and create in your life. 00:02 You can start by recognizing the limiting beliefs that are holding you back. You believe in things outside of yourself all day long. 2:18 Examples of all the ways you believe in things outside of yourself. Ways you can start building belief in yourself You can collect and create evidence to build your beliefs in yourself and your potential. You are also evidence for the people in your life. 7:16 Your vibration alone is a very strong piece of evidence that impacts you and others. Your words, actions and results may be building belief for others. An example of how Jasmine Star serves as evidence for Heather, and how others can serve as evidence for you. 11:58 Master the skill of collecting and creating evidence and you can believe in (and achieve) almost anything! 15:35Join The Self Advocacy School before February 14th to become a founding member: https://advocatetowin.com/self-advocacy-school/
