  • W​​elcome to RNT Fitness Radio. Today I’m joined by RNTer Devin Parmar, who’s been through a remarkable journey so far with us. Funnily enough, for a long time, he never thought he was doing too bad. He thought he was eating healthy, did a few HIIT sessions, and occasionally trained with dumbbells at home.

  • I’m recording this a few days after my daughter turned eight months old.

    I can’t quite believe it’s gone so fast. It’s strange; at the beginning it felt like time went super slow, but as each month has gone by, it’s sped up rapidly. I think part of it is because milestones are coming thick and fast, and her interaction with us continues to grow.

    This is the seventh time I’m recording one of my “Top Lessons” podcsats. I always flick through the previous installments to get a feel for where I was, where I’ve been and if I’ve learnt from the past.

    Oftentimes I see lessons from 7 years ago that feel timeless, and will never get old. Sometimes I look and cringe at what was going on in my life, and the clear influence it had on my thoughts.

    I’ve yet to get to the end of a year, since as long as I can remember, and think life isn’t better than it was a year before. At least on my own scorecard.

  • On this episode of RNT Fitness Radio I’m joined by Alec Blenis, a competitive athlete, strength & conditioning coach, and self-confessed science nerd. With a decade of industry experience, Alec has worked with thousands of athletes around the world (in-person and remotely). His roster has included collegiate & national level endurance athletes, powerlifters, fire/police/military personnel, and OCR athletes, as well as business executives, busy parents, weekend warriors, and first-time athletes. He believes world class coaching and fitness education should be accessible to all.

    As a lifelong athlete, Alec has enjoyed competing in a very wide range of events, including ultra-marathons (50+ ultras complete), obstacle course racing (Spartan Pro Team 2012-2014), CrossFit competitions (including a Murph World Record 2021), and more. His diverse experience across a broad spectrum of athletic endeavors has allowed him to coach a correspondingly wide variety of individuals, distilling his wealth of knowledge and practical experience into each and every one of his programs.

    His credentials include a B.S. in Physics from Georgia Tech and speciality fitness certifications including CSCS, CES, PN2, among others. And the best bit? He’s also been vegan for over a decade!

  • Welcome to part 2 of the episode series, 9 things the public doesn’t ‘get’ about being vegan (but should) with Dr Minil Patel.

    It took me 3 years of umming and ahhing before I finally pulled the plug on meat/fish/dairy. Despite having helped 100s of vegans, I always thought I was a “unique case” where it wouldn’t work. I worried about the lifestyle, the convenience, the travel, the fitness gains. It was all in my head.

    The last 22 months have proven I can feel, look and perform at my best with only plants. Only just a few days ago someone DM’d me something along the lines of: “Can you still lose weight, feel healthy and perform well without meat?” I directed her to a few RNT case studies and she couldn’t believe what she was reading (and seeing).

    The past two years have taught me a lot. A few months ago I wrote a carousel titled “9 things the public doesn’t get about veganism (but should)“. It covered four pillars: health, fitness, environment and ethics. After thinking about the 9 things more and more, I wanted to do a podcast to dive deeper into each.

    So I thought of no one better than Dr Minil Patel to join me on the podcast to discuss each. An NHS doctor since 2016 and Vegan since 2017, Minil is fast becoming an authority in the interesting intersection between health and ethics as it pertains to all things plant-based. He most recently presented at Europe’s largest conference on Plant Based Nutrition and has consistently spoken at the UK’s biggest Vegan festivals over the past 2 years. He’s also featured in the upcoming documentary “I Could Never Go Vegan” and I think you’ll agree, he’s in half decent shape as well.
