  • Letters to Kody is dedicated to all those who have wandered, all those who wish to wander, and to the loved ones we’ve lost along the way.

Several years ago, a young man’s car collided with a fire truck in Kentucky. His name was Kody. He dreamed of seeing the world beyond the beauty of Kentucky, but had barely glimpsed it when he lost his life on his way to work at Walmart, aged twenty-three. For years beforehand, Kody had keenly followed my travel dispatches from around the world, sharing questions and comments. Now, through Letters to Kody, I’m taking him with me around the world — on the road, in the present, and through anecdotes from past travels. Every episode dedicated to Kody honours his spirit of adventure and curiosity.

I’m author D. J. Swales. As a child, I gripped my teenage mum’s hand on a stormy ferry to Liverpool, fleeing the violence of conflict-torn Belfast. I haven’t stopped travelling since. I’ve been drifting in the wake of my grandfather — an old Irish sea-dog who circled the world a dozen times before being knocked into the hold of a ship in Hamburg. Since fleeing the bullets and bombs of Belfast, I’ve called twelve countries and three US states home, explored 120 countries and forty-five US states, and I’m still counting.

These are memoir-letters from my tumbleweed life. Winding, personal, and wide-ranging, they move between nature, folklore, history, humour, grief, wonder, and the extraordinary ordinary moments that make life on the road worth living — and worth sharing.

By listening, you speak Kody’s name. You help carry his spirit somewhere new.

    D. J. Swales is the bestselling author of People of Bloomsbury and the Fitzmarbury Witches series, available on Kindle.

  • Data privacy is the footprint of our existence. It is our persona beyond ourselves, with traces of us scattered from birth certificates, Social Security numbers, shopping patterns, credit card histories, photographs, mugshots and health records. In a digital world, where memory is converted to 0's and 1's, then instantly transformed into a reproduction even in 3D, personal data is an urgent personal and collective subject. Those who wish to live anonymous lives must take extraordinary measures to succeed in that improbable quest, while those who hope for friendship or fame through the spread of their personal data must learn how to prevent theft of their identity and bank account.

The first 155 episodes of Data Privacy Detective can be found on the feed of the Frost Brown Todd Podcast. You can listen on Apple Podcasts (https://apple.co/3IrHUTg), Spotify (https://bit.ly/49XRU2k), or Soundcloud (https://bit.ly/3T8EWrw).

  • Most companies don’t take cyber risk seriously until it’s too late. This is Wake Up, the podcast from Veeam that pulls back the curtain on what really happens when crisis strikes. Told through the voices of those who’ve lived it, these are the human stories behind the attacks — the 3 a.m. wake-up call every CISO knows too well, the flashing phone, the sinking feeling, the fear and fatigue that set in long before dawn, and the leadership it takes to navigate the fallout.

We’re going beyond the ransomware and phishing to explore the people, culture, and real-world decisions that define how organizations respond when it counts.

Wake Up is a call to every CISO and their C-suite peers to understand what true readiness means and to build cultures of resilience before crisis hits. Because when the next breach comes, your organization isn’t the one sleepwalking into the headlines.
